Equipment

  • 2 Large Mixing Bowl
  • Momo Steamer

Ingredients

For The Dough

  • 2 Cups Of All-Purpose Flour
  • Water As Required
  • A Pinch Of Salt

For The Filling

  • 500 g Mutton Minced
  • 1 Large Onion Finely Chopped
  • ½ Cup Of Cabbage Finely Chopped
  • ½ Cup Of Carrot Finely Chopped
  • ¼ Cup Of Spring Onions Finely Chopped
  • 1 To 2 inch Ginger Finely Minced
  • 3 Garlic Cloves Finely Minced
  • 2 Green Chillies Finely Chopped
  • 5 tsp Soy Sauce
  • 5 tsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tsp Of Garam Masala
  • ½ tsp Of Cumin Powder
  • Salt As Required
  • Black Pepper Powder As Required
  • Fresh Coriander Leaves Chopped
  • 2 tbsp Of Oil

Instructions

For Making The Dough

  • Take a large mixing bowl and add the all-purpose flour and salt as required.
  • Now add the water gradually so that the content of water remains proper or doesn't exceed.
  • Knead the mixture until it becomes soft and stiff for a few minutes. Now, cover the dough with a wet cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

For Making The Filling

  • In a large mixing bowl, add all the filling ingredients and combine well.
  • Cover the filling and marinate for about 30 minutes. Keep in the refrigerator as this enables the ingredients to impart their flavours.

For Making The Momos

  • Knead the dough once again and then divide it into small & equal sizes. The dough balls should be 1 inch.
  • Take the working board and dust it with flour. Now, roll a dough ball between your palms and gently flatten it.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll the flattened piece of dough into a momos wrapper.
  • 4Make sure to make the edges thinner than the central part. The centre part should be slightly thicker.
  • This way, roll out the remaining dough balls and stack all of them with all-purpose flour or place them on a plate dusted with flour. Do not forget to keep them covered every time.
  • Add sufficient filling in the middle of the wrapper and seal the momos with any method you prefer.
  • Pinch to seal one edge of the momo and begin pleating to the other end of the momo to ensure closure of the stuffed momos.
  • Add water as required into the steamer and heat it up. Apply some oil to the momos steamer to prevent the mutton momos from getting stuck.
  • Now, place the momos in the steamer, but make sure not to place them too close to each other.
  • Steam the mutton momos for about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Once they are ready, serve the mutton momos with red & spicy momos chutney.

Notes

  • You can use the cooking oil of your choice, such as vegetable oil, sunflower oil or groundnut oil.
  • Also, always add sufficient water to the steamer and bring it to a boil before adding the momos to the steamer.
  • You can replace the mutton with chicken, pork or beef.
