Some say a cook and a chef are the same, while others argue chefs are more skilled and trained. What do you think...is it just a title difference, or does it go deeper?

Having worked as a cook before becoming a chef, I can say the difference goes well beyond just titles. As a cook, you focus on preparing dishes, mastering techniques, and executing recipes. But when you step into the chef role, you take on leadership, menu creation, kitchen management, and the bigger picture of running a smooth operation. The experience as a cook is essential it teaches you the foundation and discipline needed to lead. So yes, it’s about skill and responsibility, and every chef should understand what it means to be a cook first.
